Toy     Doc     Grandad     Eazee     VW and Scirocco links

Geoff and I can best be described as Scirocco Nutters, we both used to drive J Reg GT2's as our daily drivers although Heather now has a more modern Skoda with her GT2 on standby if needed, we share another Scirocco for special occasions and have a fourth as a parts donor. All our cars have personal names that are based on the letters in the number plates.

Geoff's daily driver is J566RMO aka Doc (Regional Medical Officer) an 8v GT2 in Pearlescent Green, first registered October 1991.

Heather now drives the Skoda Rapid which with power steering and lighter braking is much easier to drive and park than her previuos GT2 Scirocco daily driver. The Skoda is still very much a VW, with VW engiine and parts and based on a Polo design but much easier to drive then the Roccos, we have named her Eazee.

We share JGO163T aka Just Geoff's Old Toy (Toy for short), a 1979 MK1 River Blue metallic GLS. He arrived with very low mileage, one lady owner, and records of all its services by a VW agent. He had, however, significant rust on the wings requiring new wings and a complete respray. That should put him right up with Lady for condition.

Our donor car is Geoffs previous daily driver, J627GGP aka Jeff's 627 Great Grand Parents [ Grandad for short] an 8v GT2 in Tornado Red, first registered October 1991.

We don't feel we need to attempt to boost the performance of the cars beyond the original as all the cars can easily exceed all local speed limits, in fact it can require serious concentration to keep them within the local built up area speed limits. We aim to return all the cars back to their original standards as near as possible with the hope of reaching competition winning standard. The only modifications will be to improve on items such as safety and where the original design of components are no longer available. Though on Lady we will be keeping the modifications fitted in Germany before we bought her.

We have 3 Sciroccos in total, the 2 GT2's and Toy our MK1 is an original 1979 GLS

Toy was bought in 2008 from the estate of a lady who died that year at the age of 96 years. She bought the car direct from the original garage and only used it for short journeys, with at least 2 periods stored off road, hence the milage of 42744.
He had been used as a demonstrator for a short while by the garage, but effectively has only one real owner. He was kept for the whole time in a garage in Surbiton and has VW dealer stamps for all his scheduled services.
On arrival he had serious rusting at the top of both front wings, which are being replaced, and several other very minor areas of rust. He is therfore getting a complete tidy up of all the bodywork and then a full respray with the intention of producing a show standard car.

Doc was bought to replace Grandad when we found that there was significant underlying body damage and distortion due to an accident when nearly new. Doc is very similar in specification to Junk, but with minor differences in fittings, i.e. no central locking or electric windows. It does however have a Webber Carb and an excellant conditon bodyshell, looks like new on the underside. There are however minor spots of paintwork requiring attention.
Doc is the main daily driver and gets many of the dirtier jobs, but will probably go to some shows.
Having the identical colour to Lady he may cause some confusion when actually at shows.

Grandad was the first of our five Scirocco's. It is very similar in specification to Junk, but with minor differences in fittings, i.e. no central locking or electric windows. It does however have lower mileage and no motorcycle parts so it is a good source of all mechanical spares.

Eazee came as a daily driver for Heather, who was finding problems with parking Junk, with no power steering, in the tight spaces of many car parks. After some time looking at the options available to match our requirements, namely relatively new, narrow enough to go down the side of our house, having plenty of boot space and preferably being a VW or from a VW family, we came up with Eazee, a Skoda Rapid Spaceback.

With all the others we looked at, from any manufacturer, it seemed that to be narrow, a car had to be small, cramped and have no boot to speak of.
